City Bowl and Atlantic Seaboard sites are mostly older buildings and mixed-use blocks, so cable routing is usually the hard part rather than the equipment itself. We work across offices, retail and hospitality from Woodstock and Observatory through to Green Point and Sea Point, and a good deal of it is apartment blocks and body corporates — intercom and access control at the entrance, cameras covering parking and common areas. Heritage buildings and shared service risers need the route agreed before anything is quoted, which is exactly what the site survey is for.

Work in the Northern Suburbs leans towards business parks and light industrial — Bellville, Parow, Brackenfell and the Tygervalley corridor — where sites are larger and often spread across more than one building. That tends to make the network the deciding factor: getting reliable coverage across a yard or between units is usually a harder problem than the cameras themselves. Around Durbanville and Kuils River it is more residential estates, where gate access control and perimeter cameras make up most of the work.

Claremont, Newlands, Rondebosch and Kenilworth are a mix of retail, professional offices and schools. Schools in particular need access control and cameras that office staff can operate confidently without being retrained every term, so more of the effort goes into handover than into the hardware. Further out in Tokai and Constantia the properties are larger and more wooded, which usually calls for perimeter coverage, longer cable runs and considered camera placement rather than simply more cameras.

Somerset West, Strand and Gordon's Bay are coastal, and salt air is genuinely hard on outdoor equipment — housings, brackets and cable glands that last inland can corrode within a couple of seasons here. We specify for that up front rather than coming back to replace equipment every second year. The work runs from residential estates and guesthouses through to retail and light commercial around Somerset West, and we cover out to Sir Lowry's Pass.

Farms, guesthouses and wine estates around Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschhoek and Wellington pose a different problem to a city site: buildings sit far apart, fibre often does not reach, and one network has to serve a cellar, an office, a tasting room and staff housing. Point-to-point wireless links between buildings usually do more for a working system out here than anything else. The distances also make perimeter camera coverage a planning exercise rather than a shopping list.
